ABOUT

meso image spaces

meso image spaces focuses on didactic imagery by the use of 3D techniques – especially in the field of art, culture and education.

The lab was founded as a segment of MESO.net. Michael Hoepfel, co-founder of the Frankfurt based medialab MESO (1997), extended the network to Berlin in 2006.

I am an artist, both in the visual arts and in media design.
My roots are in drawing and painting. To me, 3D programs are particularly fascinating because they are a formal description of the world we live in – or our idea of the world as we perceive it. Well, 3D programs still simulate cameras instead of human eyes. Anyway, today we tend to look at this world as if through a camera.
But the most interesting thing about 3D simulations is precisely the disparity from our world. In 3D, things can be so fundamentally different that you realize how much we take for granted in this world. I like this kind of expansion of consciousness because it frees your imagination. In the 3D program, I feel like a fish that is able to discover the world out of water: it is spectacular!
